ONCE A RAM, ALWAYS A RAM

THOMAS H. “BO” HICKEY

1945 – 2023

After a legendary athletic career in Stamford, the University of Maryland and a professional stint with the Denver Broncos, Bo Hickey came to New Canaan as a Running Backs Coach. For 31 years Bo was an integral part of Coach Marinelli’s staff that won four FCIAC titles and eight state championships during his time there. He also won 10 FCIAC titles as the head coach of NCHS boys hockey and turned the program into a state powerhouse.

But Bo was more than a coach. Bo was more than wins and losses. Bo was about the kids. Behind that tough exterior was a heart bigger than anyone’s. Everyone who was lucky enough to play for Bo knows this. Everyone who played for him LOVED to play for him. Bo was not afraid to tell you like he sees it. It often would come in the form of one-liners seldom heard in these parts. He was not afraid to rip you. To break you down. But he would build you up better and stronger than you were before.

Bo will be greatly missed by the entire New Canaan Football Family.

bw-coachNew Canaan High School Football is one of the most storied programs in the Northeast.  It started back in 1928 and the first game was played at Mead Park.  Soon after, a stadium was built at Saxe Middle School called Stanley P. Mead Field, and in 1998 the very first game played under the lights at James Dunning Jr. Field @ Hawes Plaza.

The rich tradition of New Canaan Football continues to grow every fall.
Every player past and present had a part in making the program such a special experience for young men growing up in this great community.
